The excited chirping of the birds suggested a fight was taking place in the trees. Clouds concealed every piece of the sky, a uniform white layer between it and creatures bound to the ground. Luna sat in a throne of tools, the coffee table in front of her covered with piles of motherboards and graphic cards. It almost looked as if the technological pieces, forbidden on this side of the lake, were a natural part of the living room, growing out of the shelves like sunless flowers.
The man she lived with, though a hunter, brought her 'gifts' from the old ages — pieces of technology — as well as books to understand their tiny mechanisms. She placed the subject of examination, a graphics card, on her messy work table — once meant as a surface to gather and eat on. All kinds of tools lay on it, scattered, from wire cutters to pliers.
The main door announced with a rumble that it was about to open, cue for the comfort of loneliness to leave for the next few days. She walked to it with no fear or rush. A vampire breaking into a farm mainly focused on cultivating garlic? Unlikely scenario.
As usual, her partner entered carrying two bags of meat covered in natural preservatives, coming back after being out for an entire moon cycle. Aside from the food, his hands were empty: inspiring a sigh from his friend.
”Don't look so disappointed, I've got a surprise for you! Get in the car,” he said, heading back outside and beckoning to her with his hand.
Closely scanning the vehicle, she obliged and fastened her seat belt. The companion took Luna out for a little exploring every now and then. He even taught her how to drive, ignoring the fact that only hunters were allowed to do so — law existed under the gaze of its agents, and no one saw her driving to this day.
