The process of drawing the map was simple. Sam E. Moon got a bag of lentils and let them fall on a piece of paper. Lost Villa existed once the map was being made, as the author realized there had to be a fishing village.

As you can see, not even the Outlands had earned their name back when Sam E. Moon brought this place to life. The original map had been changed to fit the descriptions better. Hades Peak and Persephone river's names were inspired by the tale involving those mythological figures, as the river grows in size in warm seasons as if Persephone had returned to the human  realm. Though, it can be seen the words 'dried up' inside the lines of the river, from which it is to be assumed that there was no water under Hometown originally.
